What´s up in Mayrhofen?

Mayrhofen is one of the top resorts in the Ziller Valley and each season offers different opportunities.  The village lies in the centre of the valley and is the starting point of the four tributary valleys - Zillergrund, Zemmgrund, Stilluptal und Tuxer Valley.

159 kilometres of piste and Austria’s steepest ski-run “Harakiri”

In winter all of Mayrhofen is under the spell of the white gold. No wonder, there are two local mountains to choose from, Penken and Ahorn. The Mayrhofen ski pass includes a total of 142 km of perfectly groomed ski-runs. There will never be a shortage of snow: snow cannons are installed on all ski-runs. No matter which hotel in Mayrhofen, Hippach or Brandberg you are staying at, the ski area is always around the corner.  The most challenging slope is called “Harakiri”– Austria’s steepest ski-run with a 78% gradient.

For longer holidays, the Zillertal Super Ski Pass valid for 640 piste-kilometres and 169 lifts is the perfect alternative. The ski areas of Hochfügen-Kaltenbach, Zillertal Arena, Ziller Valley 3000 (Penken, Mayrhofen, Finkenberg) and Hintertux Glacier form the largest skiing group of the Alps.

Hikers and mountain bikers start to arrive in the Ziller Valley as soon as the snow recedes. The lush green meadows of the Tux Alps invite to outdoor activities. The Penken and Ahorn cable-cars provide unlimited hiking options. The area has some of the finest sections of long- distance walks - the Tyrol High Altitude Trail, the Tyrol Eagle’s Trail or the Berlin High Altitude Trail all passing the Ziller Valley.

A total of 800km of marked trails up to 2000m is available in the Ziller Valley. Climbers will also love Mayrhofen:  two 60m high granite rocks near “Ewige Jagdgründen” (happy hunting grounds) - Europe’s most beautiful climbing park. There are many secured via ferratas in the Mayrhofen area.

The Ziller Valley Nature Reserve is another landmark of this area. The State of Tyrol, the Austrian Alpine Association as well as the tourism federations of Mayrhofen and Finkenberg supervise this high Alpine nature park. A hiking programme provides information about the impressive nature reserve.
