Willingen, Winterberg

The hanseatic town and official health resort of Medebach sits in the southeast of Sauerland bordering the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. The nine districts of Medebach are scattered between Winterberg in the west, Waldecker Upland in the northeast and Hallenberg in the south.  In the west and the south Medebach borders the North Rhine-Westphalian cities of Winterberg and Hallenberg, in the east and the northeast the Hessian cities of Lichtenfels and Korbach and in the north Willingen.

Medebach lies in the transition zone of sub-Atlantic and sub-continental climate which is characterised by wet, cool summers and mild winters. December is the wettest month of the year with 96mm, while April is the driest with 62mm. Annual average temperature is 7.7 °C; the hottest month of the year is July, the coldest is January. Four ski lifts at the 800 m Schlossberg, the highest mountain in Sauerland, take winter athletes up the mountain, offering fun for the whole family – flat and steep ski trails, snowshoeing, x-country skiing trails and tobogganing runs. Reetsberg x-country skiing trail can be entered in Küstelberg as well as at the carpark Schlossberg hut. This trail leads through woods and clearings providing fantastic views to Hesse and Ruhr valley. Enjoy the scenery on one of the many winter hiking trails.
The neighbouring ski resort of Willingen features the 8-person Ettelsberg- gondola, taking up to 2800 persons per hour from the bottom to the top of Ettelsberg. Winter fun on 17 km of groomed pistes, 13km covered by artificial snow. DSV-ski school in Willingen, “Snow & Bike Factory“, offers ski lessons for every age and level.
