Where is Quedlinburg?
The town of Quedlinburg belongs to the German province of Saxony-Anhalt/Harz and sits on the river Bode north of the Harz mountains. It is home to around 3,341 people and is 50km from Magdeburg. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994 for its exceptional Romanesque architecture.
The town’s districts are: Bad Suderode, Gernrode, Gersdorfer Burg, Kernstadt, Morgenrot, Münchenhof and Quarmbeck.
OLD TOWN AND MOST IMPORTANT SIGHTS
Visit the historic Old Town featuring cobbled alleys, tiny streets and timber-framed buildings of eight centuries. The Market Square in the centre is the place to start a tour through town. Here you also find the popular Xmas market.
Do not miss to visit the Renaissance Town Hall with Roland Statue, St. Servatius Collegiate Church and Domschatz at Schlossberg. The Romanesque St. Marien Church at Münzenberg, St. Wiperti Church, Abbey Park and Brühl Park.
QUEDLINBURG MUSEUMS
In bad weather visit one of the many museums:
- Schlossmuseum at Stiftsberg, displaying the town’s history.
- Klopstockhaus birthplace of the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock.
- Fachwerkmuseum (timber frame museum) located at Wordgasse
- Lyonel-Feininger-Gallery, exhibiting artworks of famous German American artists.

Quendlinburg enjoys a temperate climate with an average temperature of 8.8 °C. July and August are the hottest months of the year while January and February are the coldest. The best time to visit Quedlinburg is during the summer.
