Zermatt is a municipality in Switzerland in the district of Visp which belongs to the canton of Valais. The municipality covers an area of 242.67 km² and is home to 5,758 inhabitants. Zermatt is located at 1,620 meters above sea level in the decidedly mountainous canton of Valais; Valais is home to 33 glaciers and numerous four-thousand-meter peaks. In Täsch you have to leave your private car, there is a big parking lot for more than 1,000 cars. From Täsch to Zermatt shuttle trains of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn run every 20 minutes, the train ride takes only 12 minutes. If the train ride is too uncomfortable for you, you can alternatively travel on to Zermatt by cab, limousine service or even by helicopter.
